.. Tuesday.January.o1.2oo8 (NEW YEAR YaY!!!) ..
.. our last day holiday in pinas huhuhu :'(( .. but since it's the very first day of the year 2oo8.. we started the year with a BANG! haha.. so prior to our trip back to Singapore, we had stopped over in Cebu (Region VII) for almost a day. We hired a cab to tour us around Cebu City for ONLY 500 bucks hehe.. Normally, the cab drivers there ask for a thousand pesos for a fee so if you wanna save and have a friendly private tourist guide, you may contact Mr. Benjamin L. Caballero through his mobile number: +639197329622 .. Too bad we're unable to witness the Sinulog Festival which was 3-weeks away then ..
I enumerated the places we visited as follows: 1. Marcelo Fernan Bridge (Mandaue-Mactan Bridge) -- located in Metro Cebu that spans across Mactan Channel connecting Cebu Island to Mactan Island. The bridge was named after a former Cebuano Senator Marcelo B. Fernan
2. Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) -- situated at the Mandaue City in Metro Cebu.
3. SM City Cebu -- mall! :D
4. Fort San Pedro (First Tri-Bastion Fort) -- with 15 pesos entrance fee per head (adult). This is the oldest and smallest triangular bastion fort in the Philippines. Built by the Spaniards to repel sieges by hostile natives and Muslim pirates.
5. Lapu-Lapu Street -- the street named after the first hero of the Philippines.
6. Magellan's Cross - is a large Christian cross planted by Portuguese and Spanish explorers as ordered by Ferdinand Magellan upon arriving in Cebu in the Philippines in 1521. A sign outside claims that the original cross is encased inside the wooden cross that is found in the center of this chapel.
7. Basilica Minore Santo Nino (sometimes called Basilica del Santo Nino) -- is a 16th century church structure in the heart of downtown Cebu City. It is built in the exact spot where the image of Santo NiƱo (the Black Holy Child Jesus image/sculpture) was found by the Spanish conquistadors in 1565 preserved in a burned wooden box which was left behind by the Portuguese and Spanish explorers in 1521.
8. Magallanes Street -- where the Basilica Minore Santo Nino is located. The street named after Magellan (Magallanes in Spanish).
9. Colon National Road -- the first and oldest street in the country. Many historical monuments and antique houses around here.
10. Mactan Shrine -- where the Lapu-Lapu monument stands. The very spot where the hero of Mactan killed Magellan.
